The irises in the Californicae group are made up of 11 species and innumerable hybrids between them. They need a lime-free soil and, in warm areas, should be planted in a mostly shady area. GOOD DRAINAGE IS VERY IMPORTANT; try to plant on raised beds, mounds or slopes. On our coast they they grow in full sun in open fields or near the edges of woods. Mostly, they are small with one or two flowers per stem in a wide range of colors. In mild climates, they tend to be evergreen. They usually flower from mid-spring to early summer.
Recommended zones 4-9, 14-24; mixed success in zone 3 and other areas.
We send the plants mid-November in 4" peat pots ready to be planted right in the pots. IF YOU ARE ORDERING PLANTS FOR SHIPMENT IN THE SPRING OR SEPTEMBER, PLEASE NOTE WE ADD $8.00 FOR AN EXTRA SHIPMENT.
